Information verified August 18, 2026. Celebration Key is a new and evolving destination, so pricing, activities, policies, and offerings may change.
Celebration Key is Carnival Cruise Line's private destination on Grand Bahama, and it is a little different from the typical cruise port. Instead of stepping off the ship into a town and deciding what to do, you'll find a purpose-built destination with beaches, freshwater lagoons, dining, bars, entertainment, shopping, water activities, and optional upgrades all within easy reach of your ship.
And that brings up an important question:
What are you actually supposed to do with your day?
The answer is simple: whatever sounds like a good vacation day to you.
You can spend the day relaxing on the beach, enjoying a lagoon, exploring Bahamian shops, trying a water activity, booking a premium experience, or venturing beyond Celebration Key into Grand Bahama. You can also do almost nothing at all.
You don't have to see everything. You don't have to book an excursion. And you definitely don't have to buy every upgrade Carnival offers.
The goal isn't to conquer Celebration Key.
The goal is to have a really good day.
Celebration Key is designed to make your port day easy, but a little preparation will make it much more comfortable.
Carnival recommends bringing:
There are lockers available around Celebration Key, including lockers with charging capabilities, so you don't necessarily have to carry everything with you all day.
Your cruise ship already has what you need.
Bring the beach towel from your stateroom rather than planning to rent one ashore.
This is one of the details I would absolutely want to know before visiting Celebration Key.
Your onboard beverage package, including CHEERS!, does not extend to Celebration Key. Drinks purchased at the destination are generally sold separately. Carnival currently notes that specific Pearl Cove packages can include beverages.
So if you have already paid for a beverage package, don't assume your drinks at the beach are covered.
This is probably the biggest thing I want you to remember.
Celebration Key has plenty of things available for an additional charge, including premium beach experiences, cabanas, activities, rentals, specialty dining, and beverages.
But you can also enjoy the destination without purchasing all of those extras.
Complimentary beach loungers and umbrellas are available, and the general beach and lagoon experiences don't require you to purchase a premium package.
Celebration Key is located on Grand Bahama and was created specifically for Carnival cruise guests.
Rather than arriving at a traditional Bahamian town, you're arriving at a large, developed cruise destination with several distinct areas.
That means your day can be as simple or as active as you want.
You can stay close to the beach all day, explore different parts of the destination, or use Celebration Key as your starting point for exploring Grand Bahama.
You don't need to memorize Carnival's terminology before you arrive, but knowing what each area is designed for will make your choices much easier.
Paradise Plaza is your arrival point.
It's where you'll find Guest Services, the Shore Excursions desk, shopping for essentials, ice cream, live entertainment, and the enormous Suncastle.
Think of it as your starting point, not necessarily the place where you'll spend your entire day.
Calypso Lagoon is the area I'd pay particular attention to if you're looking for a more relaxed day.
It's designed around an adult-friendly atmosphere and includes a freshwater lagoon, beach access, dining, bars, music, sports, and places to lounge.
It is not an adults-only area, but portions of Calypso Beach and Calypso Lagoon are designated for guests ages 13 and older.
For adults traveling without children, this is likely to be one of the more appealing places to settle in.
Starfish Lagoon is the family-focused area.
It includes a freshwater lagoon, family beach, Guppy Grotto splash pad, sports, waterslides, dining, and other activities.
If you're traveling with children or grandchildren, this may be exactly what you're looking for.
If your ideal cruise day involves a quiet chair and a book, you may prefer Calypso.
Pearl Cove is Celebration Key's adults-only premium experience.
Guests must be 18 or older, and additional fees apply.
Depending on the package, Pearl Cove offers access to its private beach, infinity pool, beach club dining, bars, and other upgraded amenities.
It's an option for travelers who value a more exclusive experience.
It is not necessary to enjoy Celebration Key.
Lokono Cove is where you'll find shopping and opportunities to connect more directly with Bahamian culture.
Carnival currently lists Shopper's Paradise and an Artisan Market featuring Bahamian handcrafted goods. Taxis, rental cars, and excursion departures are also located in this general area.
If you'd like to bring home something local or explore beyond the Carnival destination, this is an important area to know about.
If you're curious how Celebration Key compares with other cruise-line private destinations, take a look at our guide to cruise line private islands and which ones are best for relaxation.
One of the easiest things about Celebration Key is that you dock.
You won't be waiting for a tender boat to take you from the ship to shore.
Carnival currently describes the walk from the ship to Paradise Plaza as about a 10-minute stroll along a shaded pier. Complimentary trams also operate around the destination.
If you're planning a relaxed beach or lagoon day, there is no reason to sprint down the gangway the moment the ship docks.
Have breakfast.
Take your time getting ready.
Check the weather.
Look at your HUB app.
Then head ashore when you're ready.
That's one of the advantages of a destination like Celebration Key. You aren't trying to squeeze a complicated independent tour into a short window just to see the highlights.
Double-check that you have:
And if you're planning to spend time in the water, consider water shoes.
Once you're ashore, you can walk or use the complimentary trams.
The destination is designed to be walkable, but remember that Bahamian heat can make a short walk feel much longer.
The trams operate continuously in a hop-on, hop-off loop, and no reservation is required. Carnival says they arrive every few minutes, although seats are first-come, first-served.
Walk when you feel like walking.
Take the tram when you don't.
This is a vacation, not a step-count competition.
For travelers with mobility concerns, the trams can make a significant difference.
If you're leaving Celebration Key to explore Grand Bahama, Carnival currently offers shore excursions, taxis, and rental cars from the destination.
There are plenty of ways to fill a day at Celebration Key.
The trick is deciding which ones actually sound like your kind of fun.
Sometimes the best thing to do at a Caribbean destination is exactly what you came to the Caribbean to do.
Sit by the water.
Read a book.
Take a swim.
Talk with your travel companion.
Do absolutely nothing for a while.
Complimentary beach loungers and umbrellas are available at the beaches.
If I were planning a relaxed Celebration Key day, Calypso Lagoon would be high on my list.

The area combines a freshwater lagoon, beach access, dining, bars, music, sports, and places to relax.
The current destination guide identifies an adult-friendly lagoon, DJ Island, swim-up bars, and other spaces designed around a more lively Caribbean atmosphere.
You can make this the center of your entire day without feeling like you're missing out.
If you're traveling with children, Starfish Lagoon may be the obvious choice.
The area includes the family-friendly lagoon, Guppy Grotto splash pad, sports courts, waterslides, dining, and a dedicated family beach.
For adults traveling without children, it can still be fun to visit, but this is intentionally the more family-focused side of Celebration Key.
Pearl Cove is the option for travelers who want to turn their Celebration Key visit into more of a private beach-club experience.
It's adults-only and requires an additional purchase.
Depending on the package, you can choose from different levels of access and inclusions. Carnival currently offers Beach Club Access, Beach Club + Open Bar, and an All-Inclusive Experience.
Would I tell everyone to book Pearl Cove?
No.
If you're perfectly happy with a complimentary beach chair and lagoon access, you may have no reason to spend the extra money.
But if an adults-only environment and premium amenities are important to you, this is where you'll find them.
Take a break from the beach and explore the shopping and Bahamian artisan area.
You can browse local goods, handcrafted items, souvenirs, and duty-free merchandise.
This can be a nice way to break up a beach-heavy day without committing to a full excursion.
If sitting still isn't your idea of fun, there are water activities and rentals available.
Depending on current offerings and availability, these can include kayaks, paddleboards, floats, snorkeling equipment, and other water activities.
The important distinction is that the beach and lagoon experience may be included, while equipment and certain activities cost extra.
Check the current offerings for your sailing before booking.
Celebration Key doesn't have to be your entire Grand Bahama experience.
Carnival offers excursions that venture beyond the destination, including sightseeing, shopping, beaches, and other island experiences.
For example, current Carnival offerings include an easy Port Lucaya Explorer excursion and longer island tours.
This is a good option if experiencing more of Grand Bahama matters more to you than spending a full day at Celebration Key.
Just remember that leaving the destination adds transportation and timing considerations.
Celebration Key makes it very easy to fall into the cruise-port trap of thinking you need to experience everything.
You don't.
You could spend your morning at the beach, move to the lagoon, have lunch, visit Lokono Cove, ride a waterslide, shop, stop for a drink, and still have things left on the list.
That doesn't mean you had a bad day.
It means Carnival built a destination with more choices than one person can reasonably experience in a single port call.
A memorable cruise day isn't measured by how many attractions you checked off.
Maybe your favorite memory will be floating in the lagoon.
Maybe it will be sitting under an umbrella talking with your spouse.
Maybe it will be discovering a Bahamian artisan shop.
Maybe you'll love an excursion into Grand Bahama.
And maybe you'll spend most of the day doing almost nothing.
That's allowed.
In fact, sometimes that's the whole point of a vacation.
Food is one area where I think Celebration Key deserves a little explanation before you arrive.
Carnival currently lists more than 30 dining and bar locations throughout the destination.
You certainly don't need to research all of them before your cruise.
Instead, understand how the dining system works.
Island Eats gives each guest one complimentary meal at participating fast-casual venues.
Current examples include Captain's Galley Food Hall, food trucks, snack shacks, and beach shacks.
The food hall offers choices such as burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, pizza, tacos and burrito bowls, Mediterranean bowls, and more. Food trucks offer additional casual and Bahamian-inspired choices.
If you'd rather sit down for lunch, Carnival's current Island Eats policy provides 40% off one entrée at participating full-service restaurants.
Current full-service choices include:
Remember:
Your onboard drink package doesn't extend to Celebration Key.
Beverages are generally purchased separately unless they're included with a specific destination package.
Unless you've specifically planned a premium dining experience, use your included Island Eats benefit and keep lunch simple.
You have a beach waiting for you.
You don't need to spend an hour turning lunch into an event.
If you want to bring home something from The Bahamas, make time for Lokono Cove.
Carnival currently lists both Shopper's Paradise and an Artisan Market, where you can find duty-free goods, jewelry, souvenirs, and Bahamian handcrafted items.
This is also one of the easiest ways to add a little local flavor to a day that otherwise feels very resort-like.

Carnival recommends bringing a credit card and some cash for purchases, particularly when shopping with smaller vendors.
And remember that you'll be responsible for carrying your purchases back to the ship, except for duty-free items that qualify for ship delivery.
There isn't one perfect Celebration Key itinerary.
There is, however, a perfect itinerary for the kind of day you want.
Morning
Have breakfast on the ship.
Take your time getting ready.
Check the weather and HUB app.
Head ashore when you're ready.
Walk the shaded pier or take the tram.
Late Morning
Make your way toward Calypso.
Find a complimentary beach or lagoon spot.
Swim.
Read.
Relax.
Enjoy the view.
Lunch
Use your Island Eats benefit at a participating venue.
Afternoon
Go back to the beach or lagoon.
If you feel like walking, spend a little time exploring Lokono Cove.
If you don't feel like walking anywhere, don't.
That's the beauty of this day.
Late Afternoon
Head back toward the ship with plenty of time before all aboard.
No rushing.
No frantic last-minute shopping.
Just a comfortable end to the day.
Morning
Have breakfast and head ashore.
Get oriented at Paradise Plaza, then explore the destination.
Late Morning
Choose a water activity or a Carnival excursion into Grand Bahama.
If you're leaving Celebration Key, pay close attention to the excursion schedule and return transportation.
Lunch
Use your Island Eats benefit or choose a full-service dining experience.
Afternoon
Return to Celebration Key and enjoy some beach or lagoon time.
Then make your way toward Lokono Cove for shopping and a little Bahamian atmosphere.
Late Afternoon
Return to the ship with a comfortable time cushion.
After a more active day, you'll probably appreciate a quiet evening onboard.
For a traveler who wants a relaxing cruise day, this gives you a little bit of everything without requiring a complicated plan.
You have access to the beach and lagoon, places to eat, places to get a drink, and opportunities to relax or be as active as you want.
And you don't have to spend extra money simply to enjoy the area.
If you're traveling with children, Starfish Lagoon may be the better fit.
If you're looking for an adults-only premium experience, Pearl Cove Beach Club is the option.
But if you ask me how I'd spend a relaxed Celebration Key day?
I'd start with Calypso.
Bring the towel from your ship.
It doesn't automatically extend to Celebration Key.
Complimentary beach loungers and umbrellas are available.
Port times and all-aboard times vary.
The experience can change depending on how busy the destination is.
Schedules and activities can change, particularly because weather can affect outdoor experiences.
The Bahamian sun is not interested in your vacation schedule.
You'll want a credit card or some cash for purchases not covered by your cruise.
If you're exploring independently or leaving Celebration Key, don't plan to return to the ship at the last possible minute.
There are a lot of things you can purchase here.
You don't have to buy them.
Celebration Key has a surprisingly strong collection of accessibility resources.
Carnival currently lists:
Celebration Key is also currently certified as KultureCity Sensory Inclusive, and sensory bags are available for complimentary checkout at Guest Services on a first-come basis.
That said, an accessible destination does not mean every individual activity is equally accessible.
A paved path may be accessible while a specific rental is located on loose sand.
A beach may be accessible while a particular water activity requires transferring or additional physical ability.
Carnival's individual excursion and rental descriptions provide specific accessibility information, so check those details before booking.
If you use a mobility device, the complimentary trams may also make a big difference in how comfortable your day feels.
For broader guidance on what to expect when cruising with mobility considerations, you can also read Cruising With Limited Mobility: What To Expect Onboard and Ashore.
Celebration Key is one of those destinations where staying right where you are may be the easiest choice.
Independent options do exist. Carnival currently lists both taxis and rental cars at Celebration Key.
For experienced travelers who are comfortable managing transportation and timing, that may be appealing.
For a first-time visitor with limited port time, though, I would keep the plan simple unless you have a very specific reason to explore independently.
Every additional transportation leg creates another opportunity for delays.
Celebration Key is part of your Carnival cruise experience, and you can enjoy many of its features without paying an additional admission fee.
Beach access, complimentary loungers and umbrellas, freshwater lagoons, and certain dining options are included.
Some activities, premium experiences, dining, beverages, and rentals cost extra.
No.
You can spend your entire day at Celebration Key without booking an excursion.
No.
Carnival's onboard beverage packages do not extend ashore. Beverages at Celebration Key are generally purchased separately unless they're included with a specific destination package.
Yes.
Complimentary beach loungers and umbrellas are available.
You do not need to purchase a cabana simply to have somewhere to sit.
Yes. Celebration Key is directly connected to the ship by the cruise pier, making returning to the ship much easier than at a tender port.
Keep your Sail & Sign card with you and always allow enough time to return before all aboard.
For adults looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, I'd start with Calypso Lagoon.
For an adults-only premium experience, Pearl Cove Beach Club is the option.
Yes. Carnival currently offers accessible trams, free beach wheelchairs on a first-come basis, accessible restroom stalls, scooter access, and other accessibility resources.
Individual activities may have additional requirements, so check before booking.
That depends entirely on what you want from your day.
If privacy, an adults-only environment, premium amenities, and a beach-club atmosphere are important to you, it may be worth considering.
If you're happy with a complimentary beach chair, lagoon access, and included dining, you may have no reason to spend the extra money.
Celebration Key gives Carnival guests something different from a traditional cruise port. You can spend your day at the beach, float in a freshwater lagoon, explore Bahamian shops, try a water activity, book a premium experience, or venture beyond the destination into Grand Bahama.
But here's the part I hope you'll remember:
You don't have to do it all.
Your perfect Celebration Key day might involve an expensive beach-club package and a private space by the water.
Or it might involve a complimentary chair, a good book, an included lunch, and absolutely nothing on your schedule.
Both are perfectly good cruise days.
The trick is figuring out what kind of day you want before you step ashore, then giving yourself permission to enjoy it without worrying about everything you're not doing.
Your cruise should feel like a vacation, not another project to manage.
At Downtime Destinations, we help travelers choose cruises, cabins, excursions, and travel plans that fit the way they actually want to vacation.
If you're ready to plan a cruise where you can Escape. Explore. Exhale., let's talk about your next getaway.
